11 Recommended Dog Foods

Updated: Sep 29, 2023

In my experience everyone has a thought on dog food from your friends to your vet even your dog trainer. 🙃

What is important when considering switching or trying a new dog food. Is knowing your dog. You are at the vet appointments, you see your dog all day, you know how much to they scratch and water they have been drinking.

When choosing dog foods consider if your dog has allergies. How much activity they have on a daily basis. How big or small they are. What your goals for their body are. and how they have been behaving?

I trust no dog food companies. I’ve been in the industry for 17 years and have seen several companies change recipes and ownership without ever notifying the consumer.

For this reason I always read the ingredients to the dog food I choose. I mostly don’t stay on the same food for over a year. And I stay current on recalls.

Ok with all of that said here is your recommended dog food list for 2023.

1.Orijen

Budget: $100+ for 26lbs

High protein dog food. Jammed packed with nutrients and vitamins. Favorite dry dog food.

Orijen is sold at Petco and most mom & pop pet shops in your city.

2. Acana

Budget: $80 + for 25 lbs

5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When I’m not feeding a raw diet I chose this food. With a range of recipes my dogs love the variety. One month lamb the next salmon 🍣 with no upset stomach. I also use the treats during training sessions.

Where to buy:

3. Farmina N&D ocean

Go! carnivore Dry Dog Food

I love this food for sensitive dogs. No pork or chicken if you choose that recipe. If your dog is limited activity & has sensitive skin. This is your dry food.

Where to buy:

Holistic Select Dry Dog food

Budget:$70 for 24lbs

5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Love this brand of dog food this is for any and all dogs.

Where to buy:

Taste of the wild Dry dog food

Budget: $50 for 28 lbs

4.5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Where to buy:

Brands that have a 4.5 rating because have chicken fat in most recipes. My dog is allergic to chicken it knocks it down for me. But overall they are great dog foods.

  1. Nulo Freestyle Dry Dog Food (chicken fat)

  2. Victor (great for sporting dogs but has chicken & pork fat)

  3. Diamonds natural

  4. Instinct (has chicken fat in it)

Serving Raw is always my first recommendation. Dry food always is my second choice. But overall if I have to switch any of the 5 stars are my first recommendation. Feeding 5 star dog food will lessen allergic reactions & vet visits. It also will help lengthen the life span of your dog.
